Closing the Loop has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with GSMA to explore offering One for One as a GSMA Industry Service.
GSMA is the global organisation that unifies the mobile ecosystem, representing more than 750 mobile operators and hundreds of companies across the broader mobile value chain. Through its Industry Services and Solutions, GSMA helps operators and partners deploy innovative initiatives that can improve the ecosystem.
Together, we will explore how One for One can be used by GSMA’s network, enabling mobile operators and ecosystem partners to create attractive value propositions through an innovative and customer-centric service.
For Closing the Loop, this marks an important step towards scaling One for One across the mobile industry.
Commercial value through impact
The mobile industry connects billions of people worldwide and plays a central role in the global digital economy. At the same time, the growth of connected devices also brings a growing responsibility to manage electronic waste.
One for One offers a simple, practical way for companies to take action on that topic today. For one phone sold, one scrap phone is collected in emerging markets and recycled responsibly. This principle can also be applied to tablets, laptops, or DaaS offerings.
Companies use One for One to strengthen device-oriented propositions by creating differentiation, brand awareness, and customer engagement.
Through this collaboration, the GSMA and Closing the Loop will explore how this approach can be implemented more broadly across the mobile ecosystem. The goal is to make it easier for the industry to achieve commercial goals by simultaneously driving positive impact
Announced at MWC Barcelona 2026
The partnership was introduced during MWC Barcelona 2026, the world’s largest event for the mobile industry.
Ana Maria Alvarez, CMO of Closing the Loop, joined Jason Smith (Head of Services & Partnerships at the GSMA), Marilyn Malpus (Commercial Director at the GSMA), and Andre Mendes (Key Account Director, Nagravision) on stage to discuss how GSMA services and partnerships can drive both industry growth and tangible progress.
The session highlighted how collaborative industry initiatives can help companies create stronger propositions for customers while also fulfilling their sustainability ambitions.
Looking ahead
With this MoU in place, Closing the Loop and the GSMA will work together to explore how One for One can be offered as a GSMA Industry Service.
Together, the partners will assess how the service can support mobile operators and ecosystem players in strengthening their customer propositions while taking practical action on e-waste.
For Closing the Loop, partnering with the GSMA represents an exciting opportunity to bring One for One to one of the world’s most influential industry networks.
